How to create an article

Use the step-by-step guide below to create an article page. 

Step 1

Decide where your page should sit within the site structure.

Navigate to the folder where you want to add your page.

Step 2

Click on the blue 'Create' button in the top right hand corner of the page.

In the dropdown presented, select the 'Page' option.

Step 3

In the selection page that displays, select the 'Article Page' template.

Select the blue 'Next' button. 

Step 4

You will be presented with the page properties. 

Fill in the fields. All fields with a * next to them are mandatory.

Below is an explanation of the property fields.

SEO/Tab title * - Enter the title of your article. This title form the URL so please remove any hypens (-) and additional spaces. 

 

Page title - Enter a title if the title in the hero should be different to the main title displayed in the URL or tab.

If this is left blank, the title will use the content in the SEO/Tab title field.

 

Navigation title - Enter a title if the title in the breadcrumb should be different to the main title. This should be used for abbreviations e.g. 'Aegon Retirement Choices' to 'ARC'.

If this is left blank, the title will use the content in the SEO/Tab title field.

 

Description * - Enter a description for your page. This should be a user-friendly description of what your article is about. 

 

Audience tag * - Add an audience tag. Using the browse button, select the audience that your article is for. 

The article will be displayed on the article homepage for the audience selected. 

 

Proposition tag * - Add proposition tag(s). Using the browse button, select all the propositions that your article applies to. 

 

Keywords tag * - Add the relevant keyword tag(s). Using the browse button, select the 'Insights' folder, select the audience folder specific to your article and finally select the news category your article should sit under. 

The categories build the category tabs at the top of the article landing page.

 

Expiry type - Select whether your page should have a scheduled review (upon expiry date set) or whether the page should withdraw on expiry (page will be archived after the expiry date set). 

 

Expiry date * - Select the date this page is compliant until. The expiry date cannot be set to a weekend, or on a known Bank Holiday. 

The expiry date should also be set to 11:00am. We set this to 11:00am as this is within our core working hours and someone will be available to support if a page expires unintentionally. 

 

Scheduled date * - Select the date and time you want the item to go live. You cannot select a weekend. If the item must go live on a weekend, please message the Digital Team. 

Purpose * - Select the article purpose. This should be either:

  • Insights (for audience specific news articles)
  • Media Centre (for corporate level news articles
  • CPD (for adviser certification articles). 

 

Audience * - Select the audience that your article is for. 

 

Category * - Select the news category your article should sit under. 

The categories build the category tabs at the top of the article landing page.

 

Page type * - Select the type of article you are creating. Your article can be a:

  • Article (News Content)
  • Audio 
  • Video
  • Podcast
  • Infographic
  • Report

 

Digest label * - Select if your audience will be reading, watching or listening to your article. 

 

Digest time (minutes) * - Enter how long it takes to read, listen or watch yoour article. 

 

Author * - Select the author of the article. The authors are pre-set in the dropdown. 

 

Displayed published date * - Select the date your article will be published. 

 

Feature date  - Select a date if your article should be the main article featured on the article landing page on a specific date. 

Review tab

 

Financial promotion status * - Select whether your article is an FP or NFP.

 

Owner * - Select the owning team from the list provided. 

 

External Source Reference ID(s)  - Enter a reference number or ID that is linked to this article. This could be a MOS number. 

 

Stakeholders & reviewers  - Select any stakeholder teams who should review the article when it is reviewed. 

Vanity URLs - If any vanity URLs are required for your article, please contact the Website Operations Team. 

 

Hide in Navigation - Select the tickbox if your article should not display in any site navigation. 

 

Hide in Search - Select the tickbox if your article should not be searchable within the Aegon site search. 

Image tab

 

Featured image - Select an image to sit in the blue title banner at the top of the page. 

You can pick from a selection of brand-approved images that are already sitting on the DAM.

 

Alternative Text * - This field will pre-populate with the alternative text from the DAM. If this is empty when the image has been selected, add a description of the image for screen-readers. 

Step 5

Once complete, select the blue 'Create' button.

A popup will display confirming you have created the page. It will ask if you would like to open the page or close the modal. Select 'Open'. This will open your page in a new tab. 

How to build/edit article content

Use the step-by-step guide below to build out the article once the page has been created. 

Step 1

Open the article page in edit mode.

The page will have a default layout with pre-built components.

Step 2

To add content, select the 'Rich text area' component containing the Lorem Ipsum text.

Once selected, in the grey toolbar, select the 'Configure' (spanner) icon. 

This will open the component in edit mode. Edit your content. 

In this component, you can add text, headings, links, bullets and tables.

Once content has been added, select the 'Tick' icon in the top right-hand corner.

If you need to add another component, e.g. image or accordion, click on the 'Drag components here' box underneath the content component. 

In the grey toolbar, select the '+' icon. This will display a list of components you can add to your page.

The page will have two default components towards the bottom of the page, 'References' and 'Tags'. 

References
If your article has data in it which you must reference the data source to, these must sit within the references component. 

Select the component and in the grey toolbar, select the 'Configure' (spanner) icon. This will open the component in edit mode. Add your source data. 

Tags
This component is specific to the article page. This component will pre-populate with the tags that you gave the page when creating it. You must leave this on the page. 

At the very bottom of the page, there is a dark blue banner. This is your promotion area. If you have a particular promotion linked to your article, you can add it here. 

If there is no linked promotion, select the 'Layout section'  in the dark blue area, and in the grey toolbar select the 'Delete' (bin) icon. 

Step 3

Once all content has been added to the page, select the 'Preview' option in the top black bar (top right-hand corner). 

Review your page and check there is no spelling mistakes and all links work. 

Step 4

Once happy, follow the 'Site Creation Workflow' guide to send your article for a review and to be published.
