Updating National Insurance numbers on SmartPay

From early 2018 onwards, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will be supplying us with customer National Insurance (NI) numbers. As a result, we’re no longer allowing the National Insurance numbers we hold on our system to be overwritten in SmartPay via your import file.

Also, you’ll no longer be able to manually update an NI number on the Update Member page – unless we hold a temporary NI number. If this is the case, you can update this field manually with a permanent NI number.

If you believe the NI number we hold for a member is incorrect, you can call us on 03456 10 00 01. If the number on our records hasn’t been matched against the file supplied by HMRC, we’ll be happy to update it for you.
