What is the European MiFID Template?

For intermediaries only

The Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MIFID) II came into force on 3 January 2018. It introduced new obligations on MiFID firms acting as product manufacturers and distributors. This includes enhanced investor protection that requires firms to take responsibility and make sure any products and related services which are designed, are consistent with the interest of clients.

Firms that manufacture financial instruments (such as asset managers) need to provide a functional description of the minimum set of data to distributors to help them fulfil the new regulatory requirements. This information includes defining a financial instrument’s target market and disclosing its costs and charges.

The European MiFID Template (EMT) allows accurate information of the target market and the costs by the manufacturers to be provided consistently and shared.

What data is included in the EMT?

You can find the following data on an instrument by instrument basis.

  1. Individual financial information
  2. Costs and charges
    1. Ongoing
    2. Transaction
  3. Distribution strategy
  4. Target market
