Otto Thoresen,
Chief Executive, AEGON in the UK
- 2007: appointed to the new AEGON Management Board, which oversees AEGON's worldwide businesses and its international growth objectives.
- 2005: appointed Chief Executive in April 2005.
- 2000: appointed AEGON UK's Finance Director.
- 1999: following AEGON UK’s formation in January, became Group Development Director of AEGON UK.
- 1997: appointed Corporate Development Director, Scottish Equitable.
- 1994: returned to Scottish Equitable as Director of International Business.
- 1992: appointed Managing Director of Royal Insurance’s offshore life business, Royal Life International.
- 1990: joined Royal Insurance, as General Manager, Strategic Marketing.
- 1988: moved to Abbey Life as Executive Director, Marketing.
- 1984: appointed Marketing Manager with Scottish Equitable, after having moved to a marketing role.
- 1982: qualified as a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries.
- 1978: joined Scottish Equitable and trained as an actuary.
- 1978: graduated with a first-class honours degree in Mathematics and Statistics from Aberdeen University.
Mark Laidlaw,
Chief Financial Officer (including responsibility for IT)
- 2005: appointed AEGON UK's Chief Financial Officer in April 2005.
- 2002: became Corporate Development Director (Shareholder Value), leading a number of projects across the group with the aim of improving shareholder value in the business.
- 2001: joined the Office of the Chief Executive, involved primarily in the company’s acquisitions, including the five independent financial adviser firms which now make up Origen.
- 1999: joined AEGON UK's Mergers and Acquisitions team as Financial Integration Director.
- 1997: appointed Head of Actuarial Services.
- 1992: qualified as a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries.
- 1988: joined Scottish Equitable.
- 1988: graduated with an honours degree in Maths and Statistics from Dundee University.
Andrew Fleming,
Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer,
AEGON Asset Management UK
- 2005: in November appointed to the dual role of Managing Director and Chief Investment Officer (CIO).
- 2005: joined AEGON Asset Management UK as CIO.
- Over 22 years’ experience in investment management. Previous roles have included managing an investment operation for six years in Tokyo, Head of Equities and Deputy CIO at Gartmore, and CIO and Global Head of Portfolio Management at ABN Amro Asset Management.
Feilim Mackle,
Director of AEGON for Individuals
- 2007: joined AEGON UK in his current role, leading the fast-growing individual life and pensions business.
- 2003: joined Royal Bank of Scotland as Managing Director, Retail Banking, with responsibility for the Natwest and RBS branch networks, direct sales and private banking. He was also responsible for the bancassurance and stockbroking businesses.
- 2000: appointed Managing Director, UK Sales at Standard Life, with responsibility for leading the entire sales force. He began his career at Standard Life, becoming Sales Director for the Direct Sales force in 1997 and then Director of E-commerce in 1999.
Maurice Brunet,
Director of AEGON for Corporates
- 2005: after AEGON UK’s restructure in October, appointed Director, AEGON Corporate Business, managing the Corporate Pensions, Group Risk and Trustee Solutions businesses. His role also includes the title of non-executive director of HS Administrative Services.
- 2003: became Operations Director of AEGON UK Life and Pensions.
- 2001: appointed Product Management Director, covering Customer Service and Marketing in Edinburgh.
- 1997: became Customer Service Director.
- 1990: joined Scottish Equitable then held various technical, pensions actuarial and customer service roles.
Steve Clode,
Director of Marketing and Customer Strategy
- 2007: joined AEGON UK in his current role, responsible for brand development and marketing, including sponsorship strategy.
- 1999: appointed Marketing Director of Nationwide. He was responsible for the development of the Nationwide brand, including advertising, direct marketing, sponsorship and market research, and led the customer relationship management strategy.
- 1996: joined Nationwide as Head of Retail Lending, later becoming Divisional Director of Savings and Investments.
- 1986: began his marketing career at Girobank, moving to National and Provincial two years later.
Peter Dornan,
Director of Partnership and Distribution Development
- 2007: appointed to his current role where he is responsible for developing and maintaining AEGON’s relationship with distribution partners such as Barclays, and affinity group marketing.
- 2005: after AEGON UK’s restructure in October, became Director, AEGON Individual Business. He also retained his non-Executive roles within AEGON UK Distribution.
- 2003: became Managing Director of AEGON UK Distribution.
- 2001: appointed Director of Group Businesses.
- 1999: became Managing Director of Scottish Equitable International Holdings.
- 1997: appointed Director of Personal Investment Businesses.
- 1981: joined Scottish Equitable as a Sales Consultant and held various positions within the Scottish Equitable branch offices.
Sandy Begbie,
HR Director
- 2007: appointed HR Director for AEGON UK in August 2007.
- 2000: joined Scottish Power, where, as HR Director, he successfully led the company through a significant period of change, including a major change programme within the HR function. He also held responsibility for leadership, management and talent development, business change and organisation development.
- Previous roles included Head of Organisational Business Change, also at Scottish Power, and Head of Training at Royal Bank of Scotland.
- Sandy is an elected member of the Wharton Business School Executive Education Advisory Board in the US and a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in Scotland. He’s also a non-executive director with the Scottish Government.
David Rogers,
Sales Director (AEGON Scottish Equitable)
- 2005: following the restructure within AEGON UK in October 2005, became Sales Director for AEGON Corporate and AEGON Individual.
- 2005: appointed Sales Director in January 2005.
- 2003: became National Sales Director.
- 2001: took over as Sales Director, Branches.
- 1999: became Regional Sales Director (South).
- 1989: moved to Kingston Branch as Branch Manager.
- 1988: promoted to Assistant Branch Manager at Croydon.
- 1978: joined Scottish Equitable as Consultant at Croydon Branch.
