Life and terminal illness protection claims
In 2011, we paid 92 per cent of life and terminal illness protection claims. Of the 8 per cent of claims declined, 74 per cent were due to non-disclosure and 26 per cent were due to the definition not being met.
Cancer was the most common reason to pay a claim and the average age of a claimant was 58.

Critical illness claims
In 2011, we paid 93% of critical illness (CI) protection claims. Of the 7% of claims declined, 19% were due to non-disclosure and 81% were due to the definition not being met.
Our decline rate has improved since 2010 by 1.5 per cent. Our tele-claims service and improved customer information gathering has contributed to this improvement in figures.
Cancer was the most common reason to pay a claim and the average age of a claimant was 46.
