Investment choice

There are two different investment approaches, and you can mix these to suit your own needs. Your financial adviser can help you assess your attitude to risk and choose the most appropriate funds for you.

You can choose from:

• the Core approach – using our four ‘ready-made’ Core portfolios
• the Multi-manager approach – using our four ‘ready-made’ Multi-manager portfolios

Please remember the value of investments may fall as well as rise and, although your guaranteed income level won’t fall simply because of poor investment performance, your actual fund value might. If your fund value falls, you might have to take a drop in income if you transfer out of Income for Life to an alternative plan.

Core portfolios

These portfolios are built from a mix of the UK Fixed Interest fund, managed by Kames Capital, and the UK Index Tracker fund, managed by BlackRock. The blend you choose will depend on your attitude to risk.

Multi-manager portfolios

These portfolios are built using a blend of the UK Fixed Interest fund, managed by Kames Capital, and a portfolio of funds currently selected from our pension fund range by OBSR. Again, you can choose a blend to suit your attitude to risk.

The role of Old Broad Street Research Ltd (OBSR)

As a consultant to AEGON, OBSR has two responsibilities:

• Developing the global equity asset allocation model for the Multi-manager portfolios, and
• Recommending high-quality funds from a selection provided by us from our pension fund range to include in the model

We decide on the overall asset allocation decision for the Multi-manager portfolios — combining the equity and fixed interest components. Twice a year, OBSR will review the equity model’s asset weights and the individual fund selections. It will then recommend any changes and give us the reason for these recommendations.

We’re not allowed to give you advice. Your financial adviser will be able to discuss all the options with you and help you decide what’s suitable for you.
