Criteria

  • Minimum number of employees is usually five
  • Minimum/Maximum age - 16-74 years
  • Minimum contribution - £20 a month (can be combination of employer/employee contributions)
  • Maximum contributions - employees will only get tax relief on contributions up to the value of £3,600 or 100% of relevant UK earnings, whichever is greater. This is capped at the annual allowance. The annual allowance is the limit on how much can be paid in total by you and your employer in a tax year. For the tax year 2011/12, the annual allowance is £50,000. Contributions paid in excess of the allowance will give rise to a tax charge. This information is based on our understanding of current taxation law and HM Revenue & Customs practice, which may change.

Key considerations

  • Affordability/Cost of advice
  • Percentage of interested employees
  • Employer involvement
  • Any existing trust-based schemes
  • Pensions reform

The value of an investment and any income from it can fall as well as rise and is not guaranteed. Investors may not get back the amount originally invested.

Costs

Schemes are priced individually based on the expected scheme profile, taking into account any additional services, expected joiners, turnover and average contributions. Contribution structures can also be set up based on age bands with our tiered contribution structures. Each band can have its own employer and member contribution rate.
