How to join your company scheme
Information for employees and scheme membersYour employer has set up a pension scheme with us, AEGON (a brand name of Scottish Equitable plc) to help you save towards your retirement.
Thinking about joining?
Before deciding to join you should read all of the information your employer gives you. If you’re unsure about anything we recommend you contact your scheme’s financial adviser or get professional financial advice. Find a financial adviser in your area.
Some things to consider:
- The state pension is just £102.15 a week (for tax year 2011/12)* – would that be enough for you?
- Do you have any other savings or investments to live on?
- Your employer may contribute to your plan - so by not joining you could be missing out
- If you're a basic rate taxpayer you'll get tax relief on your contributions of 20%, higher rate tax payers can claim at their highest marginal rate through their yearly tax return
- You can take up to 25% as tax free cash when you retire
- The value of investments and the income you'll get from them can go down as well as up. You may not get back as much as you put in.
- Company pensions may not be the most suitable savings product for you. We recommend you get professional financial advice if you are unsure. You may need to pay for this.

Join your scheme
If you want to join complete and return the Employee authorisation form (or application form) your employer gives you. You’ll have 30 days to cancel your plan if you change your mind. Just complete and return the cancellation notice in your pack.
If you’ve been a member of a company pension scheme before, find out about transferring your benefits.
This information is based on our understanding of current taxation law and HM Revenue & Customs practice, which may change. The amount of tax relief you’ll get depends on your financial circumstances.
