Every company in the AEGON Group has signed up to a common Code of Conduct, which sets out guidelines for how we run our business. This means that, no matter which part of our business our customers are dealing with, they can expect the same consistent high standards.

Although we’re a global company, we recognise the importance of playing an active role in the local communities we live and work in. We have a number of initiatives that we support to make a better future for those around us.

Giving children a healthy start to the day

In 2007, we launched the AEGON Breakfast Club in partnership with the Big Hearts Community Trust and the City of Edinburgh Council. This initiative aims to fund breakfast clubs at every primary school in Edinburgh that needs one, giving children a free, healthy, nutritional start to the day.

Charity

Our local and national charity partners are nominated and chosen each year by our employees. We support a wide range of fun events and difficult challenges for our employees to take part in to raise money for the charities that are close to their hearts.

In 2011, we donated £65,000 to our nominated charity partners - Help for Heroes, Marie Curie Hospice in Edinburgh, the Sick Kids Friends Foundation, North West Air Ambulance and Trinity Hospice.

In addition to our nominated charity partners, we also support our employees to raise money for a wide variety of charities and good causes.

This year our employees have selected; Down's Syndrome Scotland, Kindred, Macmillan Cancer Support, Blue Skies Hospital Fund, Cystic Fibrosis Trust and North West Air Ambulance

Each Christmas, employees also donate Christmas presents to children being supported in Women's Aid refuges in their local area, through the AEGON Giving Tree.

As the Lead Partner of British Tennis, it’s not just the big events like the AEGON Championships that we sponsor, we’re investing in the sport at all levels.

At a grass roots level, we're delighted to be working with the LTA to help increase access to and enjoyment of this great British sport through support of two dedicated programmes:

AEGON Schools Tennis

Through the AEGON Schools Tennis programme, we’re working with the Tennis Foundation and the LTA to introduce more children across the UK to tennis and develop the core skills to encourage them to continue playing.

AEGON Schools Tennis is designed to tackle barriers that might restrict tennis availability at some schools. At primary level, these can include equipment shortages, concerns about space, and low teacher confidence when it comes to teaching tennis skills.

The programme is free and provides schools with everything they need, including teacher training, structured coaching DVD’s and tennis equipment - over 13,000 schools have benefitted already.

AEGON Parks Tennis

Through AEGON Parks Tennis, we’re helping to increase access to tennis for players of all levels in parks and local communities across Britain.

Currently there are over 200 AEGON Parks Tennis sites in the UK (you can see where they're located and find out more about them on our tennis website) all of the sites demonstrate a real commitment to making tennis widely accessible in the local community and offer high quality, affordable tennis programmes to people of all ages and abilities.

We understand that a company of our size can have a huge impact on the environment, so we go out of our way to make sure we reduce any negative effects and increase the positive ones.

What we do

• We recycle around 80% of our waste, and aim to increase this further.
• We’ve installed motion sensors so our lights are only on when we need them.
• Our Property Services department achieved ISO 14001 accreditation in 2007, which was renewed in 2010 - to receive this we have to measure consumption and reduce waste.
• We’re continually seeking ways of reducing waste production and utility consumption.
