Charles Garthwaite
Chief Risk Officer

• 2010: joined AEGON as Chief Risk Officer in May
• 2008: founded Assent Financial, a buyout and restructuring vehicle targeting the mutual insurer and friendly society sector
• 2007: became Member of the ICAEW – Finance Faculty Risk and Regulation Committee, chairing the Faculty’s Solvency II conference, and member of Solvency II working party
• 2003: joined Resolution plc, becoming Head of Risk and Strategic Change and then Group Risk and Compliance Director in 2005
• 2002: became Head of Risk Management at Equitable Life Assurance Society as part of the rescue team
• 2001: became COO and Founding Member of Globalegacy, providing a commercial solution to the problems of urban poverty, bringing the best venture capital and business expertise to these environments
• 1989: joined Price Waterhouse (subsequently PwC), qualifying as a Member of Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1993. At PwC he specialised in financial services, in particular risk management and corporate finance.
• 1983: graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a BSc honours degree in Environmental Biology
