Our brand journey
We have a long and proud heritage in the UK, and we've been helping people take responsibility for their financial future since 1831 when Scottish Equitable was founded in Edinburgh. Over time we’ve made a few changes to our brand, but we’ve stayed committed to our purpose.
How our name has changed
In 1994 we joined Aegon N.V., a global provider of pensions, investments and protection.
In 2006 we took the decision to increase our emphasis on the Aegon name and highlight the international strength and experience of our parent company. As a result, Scottish Equitable was renamed as Aegon Scottish Equitable.
In 2010 we shortened the Aegon Scottish Equitable brand name to Aegon. This is helping us build a single recognisable brand.
Making Aegon better known in the UK
We're passionate about helping people create the tomorrow they want. In 2009, we became the first ever Lead Partner of the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) to help transform the future of tennis at all levels. It's a sport that's popular with our customers and our sponsorship is helping us become better known, as well as making a real difference to the game.
We understand the importance of investing for the long term and we're excited to have extended our sponsorship of British Tennis until 2017. We're looking forward to involving our customers more as we help to transform the future of the sport by supporting young talent, national teams and events throughout the country, including the Aegon Championships at the Queen's Club. And we're delighted to have been voted one of the UK's strongest Business Superbrands since 2011.
Towards the end of 2012, we began to phase in our new strapline 'Transform Tomorrow' which reflects that we're about helping people create the future they want. And it's a call to action too, encouraging people to make a positive change.
