During 2007 and 2008, AEGON UK conducted an award-winning three-phase programme of ground-breaking research with consumers. The aim was to develop a truly customer-centric model for the retail distribution of long-term savings, investment and life assurance products.
Summary report and conclusions
- An executive summary of all three phases was prepared for us by Opinion Leader, which carried out the research for us.
- We’ve also drawn our own conclusions from the research. Read our thoughts on Phase I and II and Phase III.

Opinion Leader produced full reports for all three phases of the research.
‘Thinkpiece’
When Phase III was completed, our project manager for the research, Nick Hurman, wrote an article for the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) as part of its ‘Thinkpiece’ series
In December 2008, we held a seminar with 12 senior colleagues from product providers, financial and professional advisers, consumer groups and the FSA to explore how the consumers’ distribution and advice concepts could be implemented and what the barriers there might be in the current market. This research was carried out independently of AEGON. It doesn’t necessarily represent our views and we don’t take responsibility for the opinions expressed.
