Steven Cameron

Steven Cameron,
Regulatory Strategy Director

Steven is Aegon’s Regulatory Strategy Director and leads our regulatory and legislative analysis and lobbying. He has a particular focus on delivering internal and external insight into how proposed changes may impact on the industry and on seeking to influence the outcome. He is frequently quoted in the media on regulatory and industry matters. Steven is an actuary by profession and has almost 30 years experience in financial services. His previous roles have included Head of Pensions and Marketing Actuary.

Steven represents Aegon on a number of Association of British Insurers committees including the Long Term Savings and Life Insurance Committee. He is a member of Scottish Financial Enterprise’s Insurance, Life & Pensions Sector Policy Group and the Department of Health’s Financial Services Steering Group looking at Long Term Care Funding.


Kate Smith

Kate Smith,
Regulatory Strategy Manager

Kate is Aegon’s Regulatory Strategy Manager and leads our pensions regulatory and legislative analysis and lobbying, giving insight into new developments. Her focus is on the workplace pension environment, with particular emphasis on seeking to influence regulatory and legislative initiatives to deliver good outcomes for customers. She spends a lot of time thinking about the next steps for automatic enrolment and the changing pensions market, and what this could mean for both customers and the pensions industry, now and in the future.

Kate comments on pension issues in the financial and consumer press. She’s a Fellow of the Pensions Management Institute and an Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute. She has over 25 years of experience in the workplace pensions market having worked for both life offices and Employee Benefit Consultancies. Kate represents Aegon on a number of ABI committees including the Retirement and Savings Committee.

Douglas Herdman

Douglas Herdman,
Regulatory Strategy Manager

Douglas is an actuary with over 25 years of industry experience across both employee benefits consultancies and various life office roles. His main area of responsibility is to analyse and interpret the impact of regulatory and legislative developments on Aegon and the pension industry and what it might mean for our customers. Recent work has spanned Retail Distribution Review, pensions reform and latterly the Office of Fair Trading review into the DC workplace pensions market.

Douglas represents Aegon on the Association of British Insurers’ Life, Savings and Protection Distribution Committee.
