The government abolished contracting out of the State Second Pension (S2P) on a defined contribution (money purchase) basis on 6 April 2012. From that date former protected rights funds (also referred to as contracted-out funds) can be treated in the same way as non-protected rights funds.

If you were still contracted out on a defined contribution basis at 5 April 2012, you’ll have been automatically brought back in to S2P from 6 April 2012.
